We are proud to announce Orb has been selected to participate in News Match 2017.
News Match is a $3 million collaboration between Democracy Fund, the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, and the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation to support nonprofit news organizations that play a vital role in informing the public and holding those in power accountable.
Orb is structured as a US-based nonprofit to make our objective of serving the global public clear and indisputable.
Knight Foundation launched the inaugural News Match in 2016, helping 57 nonprofit news organizations raise more than $1.2 million in matching donations. This year, in partnership with the Miami Foundation, the News Revenue Hub, and the Institute for Nonprofit News (INN), of which Orb is a member, these foundations have nearly tripled the amount of funding available in support of state and local news, investigative reporting, and engaged journalism.
Orb relies on foundations and public citizens for funding to ensure we can report on issues that matter to us all.
Past donations to Orb have helped us report on hidden public health threats like microscopic plastic in 83% of the world’s tap water. Future gifts will support reporting on emerging trends and crises like the global aging bubble that may burst by 2050, and what rising seas mean for the future of our planet and species.
From now through December 31, Orb is eligible to receive up to a total of $28,000 in matching funds, for individual donations up to $1,000 each. Donors can double their impact by contributing at www.orbmedia.org/donate to ensure the issues that affect us all get the coverage they deserve.
