Behrouz Afagh, Board Member

Behrouz Afagh is an international media consultant. He worked for the BBC for over 30 years, as a journalist, and as editor and manager until 2016. He was responsible for BBC’s TV, digital and radio channels in multiple languages for Middle East and Asia, with over 100 million audience.

He now works with several foundations and media outlets. He is a board member and editorial advisor of Taslimi Foundation, which focuses on media, human rights and education. He is a consultant with DMA Media, a commercial company, specialising in building and managing TV and digital channels, and production/editorial training. He is a board member of AEPO (Afghan Education Production Organisation), a media NGO, which produces educational radio programmes for Afghanistan in partnership with the BBC. He is also a member of the board of Amanat Trust, a family foundation, focussing on social justice, education and environment.

Behrouz also chaired the board of Journalism Program at the Open Society Foundation until December 2017. And he was a member of the judging panel for the Guardian’s annual International Development Journalism Competition. He was born and brought up in Iran, and studied at Tehran University and then University of Surrey in Britain. He has lived in Britain since 1978.
